KINDERHOOK—The Ichabod Crane School District has asked parents and guardians to fill out an online Planning Survey for the 2020-21 school year. The district asked for responses online by July 9.

Posted on the district’s website is a letter from newly appointed School Superintendent Suzanne Guntlow, saying, “Over the coming weeks, I will be collaborating and communicating with all district stakeholders—parents/caregivers, staff, teachers, administrators, board members and health and safety officials—to create a safe and effective learning environment for our students to return to this fall.”

Ms. Guntlow, who has worked as an administrator in the district since 2013, was assistant superintendent before she took over as superintendent July 1.

Her letter goes on to say, “We anticipate guidance on the reopening of schools from the Governor’s Office, the NYS Department of Health and the NYS Education Department. In anticipation of these decisions, we are in the process of creating a School Reopening Task Force and five sub-committees. The sub-committees include Academics, Health & Safety, Operations & Athletics, Social-Emotional Wellness and Communications.”

The survey is on the district website at www.ichabodcrane.org.

Ichabod Crane and Hudson are the two biggest school districts in the county in terms of enrollment.

Ichabod Crane will be engaged in planning for reopening around major construction projects in the middle school and high school buildings in September. Before the pandemic closed the school buildings in March, the administration had announced construction plans and where classes will be held. Construction started last month and is expected to continue until 2022.
