Hinchey launches back-to-school drive

With the school year just a couple of weeks away, state Sen. Michelle Hinchey, D-41, is hosting a back-to-school drive to help families get the school supplies their children need. Courtesy of Pexels

CATSKILL — To help families in need prepare for the upcoming school year, state Sen. Michelle Hinchey’s office is partnering with the Hudson/Catskill Housing Coalition and the Back to School Barbecue in Catskill, to collect essential school supplies for K-12 students.

The Senator’s office is collecting the following items: 

  • Backpacks
  • Pens
  • Mechanical pencils
  • Dry erase markers
  • Markers
  • Crayons
  • Highlighters
  • Pencil boxes
  • All sized subject notebooks
  • Composition notebooks
  • Looseleaf paper
  • Binders
  • Folders
  • Scissors
  • Glue sticks
  • Rulers
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Tissues

Donations can be dropped off at Hinchey’s Kingston office at 721 Broadway, Suite 150, Kingston, NY 12401. The office is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Donations will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 18, at Hinchey’s Kingston office.

Hinchey will also host a drop-off event in Catskill on Thursday, Aug. 17, from 4-6 p.m. at the Hudson/Catskill Housing Coalition Office, at 361 Main St., Catskill, NY 12414. School supplies are being collected at this event and not distributed.
