GERMANTOWN—The Town Board is ready with a proposed 2018 budget for a Public Hearing tonight, Thursday, November 9 at 6 p.m. in Town Hall.
The total town appropriation is $1,305,369. This amount is to be paid for with revenues of $496,100, taxes of $566,404 and dipping into the unexpended balance for $242,855. That gives the town a balanced budget.
The budget can be found on the town website, germantownny.org.
In other town news:
• The Planning Board holds a special meeting Wednesday, November 15 in the Kellner Activities Building. The agenda is to “work on the proposed FEIS (Final Environmental Impact Statement),” presumably for the application from Primax Properties for a Dollar General retail store on Route 9G, just north of County Route 8/Main Street
• Volunteers are sought this weekend—Saturday and Sunday, November 11 and 12, at 10 a.m. each day—to plant daffodil bulbs at the Main Street end of Palatine Park. “The only things needed are a strong back and a shovel or bulb planter,” says the notice on the town website. • Fire District elections are coming up Tuesday, December 12. Voting takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the firehouse, 181 Main Street. One seat is open for a five-year term running from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2022. All district residents enrolled with the County Board of Elections are eligible to vote.
Those wishing to run for the seat must request a line on the ballot by Wednesday, November 22, in writing to the District Secretary at PO Box 331, Germantown, NY 12526.
