G’town board OKs plan for treatment plant upgrade

GERMANTOWN–The Town Board accepted the final engineering report by Delaware Engineering on the Water Waste Treatment Plant (WWTP) at the March 12 board meeting. The upgrade for the WWTP is expected to cost no more than $2.5 million. A grant for $625,000 will be appropriated for the project.

J. Squared Contractor won the bid, coming in at $1.6 million for the project. Omaha Electrical Contractor will do the electrical work for a bid of $264,000, and Delaware Engineering will oversee the project for $150,000. The State Environmental Quality Review and the bond resolution for the project were approved as well.

Also at the meeting, Ellen Jouret-Epstein presented the board with a copy of newly published 304 pages 2018 Natural Resources Inventory of Columbia County. A copy is on the Columbia County Environmental Management Council website, which can be reached by searching on the full name of the council.

In other business at the March 12 meeting:

• The board deferred appointing a Planning Board acting chairperson as well as Local Law 2 of 2019, which called for reducing the membership of Planning Board from seven members to five. Membership will remain at seven

• The supervisor was authorized to enter into an agreement with state Department of Transportation regarding maintaining the Empire State bike trail

• Audits of agricultural exemptions, open building permits and open building permits applications were proposed

• Assignments to the Planning Board in February 2018 were rescinded back to the Town Board

• The board voted ‘no’ to a vacancy tax and to a three-way stop sign on Main Street at Church Avenue

• The supervisor was authorized to act regarding the state DOT Civil Rights Compliance Review and authorized to enter into an agreement amending the fee for Delaware Engineering for the WWTP upgrade

•Steve Savoris addressed the board to express the “opposition to the representation of the Zoning Board of Appeals by the firm Whitbeck Benedict & Smith LLC and Corinne Smith on any matter brought before ZBA by Primax Properties that is related to the Decision/Order of the Supreme Court in the Article 78 Proceeding.”

The next meeting of the Town Board is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 50 Palatine Park Road.
