HUDSON–Around the county and the state public school district budgets for the 2015-16 school year go before voters for approval on May 19. Following is a summary of the proposal for the Hudson City School District (HCSD). The proposed budget calls for a 1.75% property school tax increase, which meets the state cap on increases in the proposed tax levy while continuing current school programs and services.
As the chart (see page 11 of print edition) shows, state aid in the coming school year is scheduled to rise by nearly 3.8% over the current year.
In districts where voters reject an annual budget proposition, the Board of Education has the option of offering the same or a revised plan for a second vote. If that proposal also fails, the state imposes required spending limits on the new budget, based on current spending and including program cuts.
The public hearing on the HCSD school budget will be held Monday, May 11 at 7 p.m. at the high school during the regular meeting of the Board of Education.
