ALBANY — John Faso, who in November lost his congressional seat to Democrat Antonio Delgado, says he will not try to win back the seat in 2020.
In a statement delivered to the Albany bureau of the USA Today Network, the Kinderhook Republican said other priorities will sideline him.
“Family and professional obligations will make it impossible for me to wage another campaign, especially since such efforts would have to begin almost immediately,” Mr. Faso said.
Mr. Faso did not return a request for comment on Monday.
Congressman Delgado beat Mr. Faso by a 5 percent margin (51-46 percent) in an election that saw
Republicans turned out of the House majority.
Mr. Faso, a former minority leader in the state Assembly, won the House seat in 2016. The district
represents much of the Hudson Valley region and all of Columbia County.
Mr. Faso ran for the seat after Rep. Chris Gibson retired. In 2016, he easily beat law school professor and 2014 gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout.
