Columbia County Coroner Angelo Nero was called to the scene.

An ensuing police investigation led to the apprehension of the victim’s estranged husband, David T. Agan, Jr., 42, of Valatie, who they found traveling on Route 4 in the Town of East Greenbush, Rensselaer County, about an hour later.

The investigation led to a lockdown of all schools on the nearby Ichabod Crane School District campus shortly before the end of the school day.

At the time, people in the neighborhood were advised to remain indoors and at least two helicopters hovered above the area near the building.

Ichabod Crane schools Superintendent George Zini issued a statement late Thursday afternoon, December 10, saying that the district had been contacted by the school resource officer and advised to go into lockdown “due to an incident that happened in our community.” He said that students were held in their buildings until the district was notified at about 3:30 p.m. that it was safe to release them.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. this morning, Mr. Agan was arraigned in Livingston Court at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, December 11 and sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail on a charge of second degree murder, a class A-1 felony.

Police announced a press conference to be held at the Livingston barracks, 3353 Route 9 at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. Further details will be reported as they become available.

Police ask anyone with information about the crime to contact them at 845 677-7300.

Police were assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.

This is the third murder in Columbia County in the last two months and the second murder in Columbia County in the last two weeks. None of the murders are connected.

The cousin of a Hudson man was charged with second degree murder in his stabbing death, October 11. Carl “Pepe” Williams allegedly stabbed his cousin, Cory “Skrilla” Velazquez in the neck at Mr. Velazquez’s apartment on Frederick Street in Hudson.

The District Attorney’s Office and State Police are also investigating the death of a baby boy found asphyxiated in a dumpster behind a Livingston convenience store November 27. The child’s mother, Tara Tomlin, 20, of Livingston has been charged in that homicide.
