RAVENA — The county’s Conservative Party has made its choices for the March 15 village elections.

Dominic Ruggeri has been selected to represent the party on the ballot in the race for mayor, and Barbara Tanner was chosen to appear on the ballot for one of the two trustee positions that are up for grabs, George McHugh, chairman of the Town of Coeymans Conservative Party Committee and the town supervisor, said Saturday.

“The Albany County Conservative Party Executive Committee conducted interviews this morning of prospective village of Ravena candidates for the upcoming village elections to be held on March 15, 2022,” McHugh said. “Dominic Ruggeri was selected by the committee for endorsement by the Conservative Party for the position of village of Ravena mayor and Barbara Tanner was selected for endorsement for the position of village trustee.”

Prospective candidates from both major political parties were invited to interview for the Conservative Party’s endorsement, however they did not accept the invitation to be interviewed by the committee, McHugh said.

The party’s decision comes days before both the Democratic and Republican caucuses are scheduled to be held to choose those parties’ candidates.

Mayor Bill Misuraca will be up for re-election to another term and has already stated on social media that he is planning on running and is hoping to receive cross endorsement from the two major political parties.

“I respectfully request assistance from both sides of the aisle in each caucus,” Misuraca said. “If you’re happy with the direction we’re headed, come to the appropriate caucus and make your voice heard! I’d love a bipartisan seal of approval.”

Misuraca was first elected mayor in 2014 and has served two terms in office.

The village board seats currently held by Linda Muller and Mary Ellen Rosato will also be up for grabs in March.

All three positions are for four-year terms.

The Republican caucus will be held Monday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. at Senior Projects of Ravena, 9 Bruno Boulevard in the village.

The Democratic caucus is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ravena firehouse, 116 Main St. in the village.

Only voters registered with the party may vote at that political party’s caucus.

Election Day will be Tuesday, March 15.
