Register to vote by October 12

HUDSON–Anyone not currently registered to vote with the Columbia County Board of Elections has until Friday, October 12 to register in person at the board, 401 State Street, or to postmark a registration form. A legibly postmarked registration must be received by October 17.
The board is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. In addition, on Wednesday, October 10 it will stay open until 7:30 p.m.; on Friday, October 11 it will stay open till 5pm; on Saturday, October 13 it will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. To register you must be a US citizen over the age of 18 who has resided in the county for at least 30 days before November 6. To check if you are registered to vote, visit the vote-ny.com website and go to “Voter Lookup.” Voters who have moved within Columbia County should complete a new registration form as soon as possible. Any address changes received by October 17 will be processed in time for the November election; if changes are received after that date, the voter will have to vote by affidavit (provisional) ballot. Voters must vote at the poll site for their current (new) address.
To vote absentee, if you do not expect to be in the county on Election Day: First you must request an absentee ballot. Application forms are available at the Board or can be downloaded at columbiacountyny.com/depts/elections/forms.html. Applications mailed to the board must be legibly postmarked by Tuesday, October 30 (one week before the election). Once a ballot is received, it must be legibly postmarked back to the board no later than Monday, November 5 (the day before the election) and received by Tuesday, November 13 (one week post-election).
The board expects to have absentee ballots available no later than October 15.
Voters who do not expect to be in the county on Election Day can complete an application at the board, and, once the ballots are available, can vote at the board during any hours that it is open. Additional hours for absentee voting in person include:
Thursday, October 25, till 6 p.m.
Saturday, October 27, 9 a.m. till noon
Thursday, November, 1 till 6 p.m.
Saturday, November 3, 9 a.m. till noon
The board also will be open until 5 p.m. Monday, November 5.

On November 6 all 34 poll sites in the county will be open, and voting hours are from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
