RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK — Voters approved the RCS school budget for the 2023-24 school year with 565 in favor and 239 against.

The $53,548,486 budget for the coming school year was approved with a 1.48% increase in the tax levy and represents a spending increase of $2,291,557, or 4.47%.

Voters also elected three members to the board of education. Four candidates were on the ballot — Jacqueline Kalney, Michael Coyne, Peter Ross and Michael Robbins.

Kalney, Coyne and Ross were elected.

Kalney was the highest vote getter of the night with 594 votes, Coyne received 585, and Ross, an incumbent, was re-elected with 565 votes. Robbins received 259.

Voters also approved a proposition to purchase three 64-passenger buses at a maximum cost of $495,084, with 567 voting in favor and 236 against the resolution.

A referendum to establish a $10 million capital reserve account was also approved by a 523-273 vote. The referendum only creates an account to set aside money for future capital uses.

“It’s to finance the purchase of, and general improvement, reconstruction, renovations or additions to the district’s buildings,” according to a statement from the district. “The account would also include the potential acquisition of sites (land and/or buildings), site work and the acquisition of original furnishings, equipment, machinery, acquisition and installation of technology equipment, or other apparatus required for the purpose for which such buildings are to be used.”
