COPAKE FALLS—Elinor Mettler, founder of the Roe Jan Independent, a weekly newspaper, and a columnist for this newspaper, died suddenly at her Maple Lane home, Wednesday, May 11.

Mrs. Mettler was a tireless promoter of Columbia County and the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, and recently completed her third book, “Down Maple Lane: A Place to Call Home in the Upper Hudson Valley,” a collection of her hometown newspaper columns.

Friends are invited and may call Friday May 13, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22 in Copake.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday May 14, 2011, 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Hope Parish in Copake Falls.
Interment will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery.
