CMH hires firm to run Emergency Dept. Services


HUDSON–Columbia Memorial Hospital announced this week that it has contracted with Emergency Medical Associates, a private company, to provide emergency care services.

The hospital said in a press release that Emergency Medical Associates, a private organization made up of physicians and administrators, “focuses on clinical excellence and world class emergency care, and is widely recognized… to provide expert medical care and improve patient satisfaction.”

Emergency Medical Associates is headquartered in Parsippany, N.J., and provides emergency medical services in New York state, New Jersey, Rhode Island and North Carolina.

The company’s website,, says that it employs “approximately 400 emergency physicians, more than 200 associate practitioners, and more than 60 primary care/internal medicine/hospitalist physicians” at hospitals and ambulatory care centers.

In addition to Columbia Memorial and the hospital’s Rapid Care Center in Valatie, Emergency Medical Associates already works with St. Peters Health Care Services in the Capital District and several hospitals in the lower Hudson Valley and the downstate region, including Northern Westchester Medical Center.

Raymond Iannaccone, MD, FACEP, president and chief executive officer of Emergency Medical Associates said in the press release that the privately company is proud to serve Columbia Memorial’s patients.

Michael Weisberg, MD, Emergency Department associate director and the medical director of Columbia Memorial’s Rapid Care Center, said in the release that he “is excited to have EMA come and offer their vast experience and resources to help us move forward with the ever changing climate of emergency medicine”.

The Emergency Department, in the Kellner wing of Columbia Memorial Hospital, had more than 34,000 visits last year. The department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by emergency physicians, on-call physicians, physician’s assistants, registered nurses and patient care assistants. Separate walk-in and ambulance entrances are available. The Emergency Department is also located right next to the hospital’s surgical suite, which can save critical time in a life threatening situations.

Emergency Medical Associates says it provides unscheduled patient care to nearly a million patients annually in the four states.
