HUDSON–There’s a new vessel docking at the city’s waterfront these days, The Marika, a 92-foot-long, two-deck luxury cruise yacht. The yacht is owned by the Hudson Cruises, Inc. tour company, which held a grand opening for its newest vessel July 30
The 27-year-old yacht came from the Michigan and made its way to Hudson after seeing duty as a cruise vessel in New York and Boston harbors.
Crew members said at the event held at the dock at Waterfront Park, that the ship was purchased with the intent of catering to weddings–it has a “Bride’s Quarters”–anniversaries, fund raisers, political campaigns, even a murder mystery cruise. It has a cocktail lounge, galley for food preparation, and state-of-the-art sound system, supporting live music and DJ’s. It comes equipped with new carpeting, LED lights and leather trimmed interior.
On the cruises, which range from nearby stretches of the river to the Port of Albany and to points south, Captain Guy Falkenheimer looks for wildlife to point out to passengers, including the occasional bald eagle, said crew member Dave McGrath.
The company has two other, smaller tour boats, the Spirit of Hudson and the Lighthouse Ferry.
