KINDERHOOK–In stark contrast to the cold and rainy days surrounding it, Wednesday night, September 29, presented nearly perfect weather for the Ichabod Crane-Lansingburgh Colonial Council boys’ soccer match-up. Having already defeated the Knights 4-0 earlier this season the Riders were just looking to keep their undefeated league record intact.

From the opening whistle the Riders dominated play and possession, putting non-stop pressure on the ‘Burgh defense and goal. Midway through the first half, freshman Seth Scarano played a perfect ball over the defense to the edge of the box. Mitchell Niemeyer ran onto the ball, and with Lansingburgh goal keeper Jarrod Jarosz charging, he touched it by him, then ran by him to put the ball away. It took only another few minutes before Scarano received the ball with his back to the goal, turned, shot and picked up a goal of his own. Yet despite all the pressure the Riders were only able to net those two goals in the first half.

The Riders kept up their offensive onslaught in the second half and though the team brought in a number of substitutes the goals didn’t stop coming, as ICC put in three more in the second half while also forcing Lansingburgh into an own goal as the Riders tallied a 6-0 victory.

Niemeyer led the charge with two goals, while Scarano and Will Poetzsch each scored a goal and added 2 assists in the win. J.P. Prendergast also picked up a goal, and Steven Domino made just 5 saves in goal for the win.

The Riders were scheduled to play three games this week, two on the road before a big showdown Wednesday with fellow unbeaten Schalmont at home.
