KINDERHOOK – Voters in the village approved hooking up 35 properties in the business district to the Village of Valatie sewer plant at a special election on Wednesday. The vote was 340 to 143 on a referendum for the board to create a Village of Kinderhook Sewer system at a total cost of $941,802.

Eighty percent of the project is funded through state grants and private donations, meaning the board only has to borrow $231,465.66 to pay for the construction of the lines. Pay back of that loan will be spilt between all property owners in the village, while the 35 properties hooked up to the sewer plant will pay Valatie sewer rates and the Valatie unit sewer price for upkeep of the plant.

The 35 properties are residential and business buildings.
