CHATHAM – The school board accepted the resignation of board member Francis Iaconetti April 24. Mr. Iaconetti was convicted in Village Court April 17 of harassing a student. He is scheduled to be sentenced June 3 and faces up to 15 days in jail and a fine of $250.

School Board President John Wapner released a statement last week saying, “With Mr. Iaconetti’s resignation made effective immediately, the board considers the matter to be resolved.”

Mr. Iaconetti served on the board for 16 years. He was reelected in May of 2011 to a three-year term. The board will discuss how to fill Mr. Iaconetti’s seat at the next board meeting Tuesday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Mary E. Dardess Elementary School.

The harassment chargers were made in March by a 15-year-old female student, who is a neighbor of Mr. Iaconetti’s. The harassment did not take place on school grounds.
