VALATIE—Sheriff’s Office investigators and Special Weapons and Tactics Team members arrested three men, they say, were involved in the sale of a stolen handgun.
Arrested were: Keith W. Moulaison, 26, of Kinderhook; Matthew E. Kelly, IV, 18, of Niverville; and Christopher Alston, 27, of Richmond, Virginia.
Mr. Moulaison and Mr. Kelly were charged with third degree criminal sale of a firearm, a class D felony, and fifth degree conspiracy, a class A misdemeanor. Mr. Alston was charged with fifth degree conspiracy, a class A misdemeanor.
While investigating a September 20 burglary in which a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver was stolen from a Valatie residence, investigators learned that the same handgun may have been used in a Greene County home invasion, according to a press release from Sheriff David Harrison, Jr.
The three men charged were taken into custody as they allegedly sold the handgun on New Street in the village, September 22 at 11:48 a.m.
The weapon was recovered at the time of the arrests.
All three were arraigned in Valatie Court before Justice Steve Berry.
Mr. Moulaison was jailed in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond; Mr. Kelly was jailed in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bail bond; and Mr. Alston was jailed in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bail bond.
All three are slated to return to court at a later date.
Senior Investigator Kevin Skype and Investigators Paul Graziano, Mark Dunspaugh and Patrick Logue; Sergeants Michael Merante and William Zincio; and Deputies Louis Bray and Marcus Hickey were involved in the investigation and arrest. The District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
Investigators continue to work with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Hudson Police Department to uncover possible connections to criminal activity in their areas.
“Any time we can take a stolen handgun off of our streets it’s a good thing. The investigation was successful due to the work done by the investigators and from the tips and assistance received from Valatie residents. The residents who came forward made the safety of their community a priority and I commend them,” the sheriff said in the release.

PHILMONT—Rose Mary Rogers, 97, of Craryville died peacefully Monday, February 10, 2025 at Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born October 9, 1927 in Claverack, the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Jennings) Tomlin. She worked locally in factories related to agriculture and most recently with Entenmann’s in Livingston.
She was the widow of the late William E. Rogers, who died October 10, 1983. She is survived by sons, William F. Rogers and David T. Rogers. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.
Graveside burial services were in the Churchtown Cemetery, February 13, 2025 with Pastor Bob Milsom officiating. Arrangements were with the Sacco Funeral Home, Greenport.
