GREENPORT—The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a bank robbery at the Bank of Greene County in Fairview Plaza that happened April 9.

Columbia County 911 dispatched Deputy Travis VanAlstyne to the bank at 3:46 p.m.

According to a press release from Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr., an unidentified black man entered the bank, approached a teller window and demanded money from the teller.

The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect, who then left the bank on foot. Patrols searched and canvassed the immediate area.  Investigators conducted interviews on the scene while evidence technicians processed the crime scene. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect is described by the sheriff as a black male, between 5’ 8” and 6’ tall, wearing a dark-colored camouflage-type jacket with a hood, a red New York Yankees baseball cap along with dark sunglasses.

Investigators are also looking into the possibility that the suspect may be connected to other bank robberies in western New York State.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 518 828-3344.

Several Sheriff’s deputies, Sheriff’s Investigators, Greenport Police, State Police and Hudson Police assisted at and around the scene.
