STUYVESANT—A Valatie man was killed in a motorcycle crash at 1590 Route 9J between Gibbons and Schoolhouse roads, June 23 at 11:58 p.m.
Matthew N. Tomlin, 24, of Valatie, was riding his motorcycle south, when for an unknown reason he applied his brakes, the motorcycle slipped out from under him and he hit the guardrail on the west side of the road.
Authorities believe he was headed home from his job as a security guard at the SUNY Albany Nano Tech School at the time of the crash.
He died at the scene.
Road conditions were clear and dry that night and there was no indication of alcohol or drug use by the driver.
An autopsy performed by Dr. Jeffrey Hubbard at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany June 24 revealed the cause of death to be a ruptured aorta, according to Columbia County Coroner Angelo Nero.
State Police investigated and the Valatie Rescue Squad and Stuyvesant firefighters were on the scene. The road was closed for some time.
Mr. Tomlin was a 2004 graduate of Taconic Hills High School and a 2006 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College.
He was a Mets fan, a softball and little league umpire, and an annual participant in Sean’s Run.
Calling hours are Friday, June 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Route 9, Valatie.
Funeral services take place Saturday, June 27 at 11 a.m. from the St. John the Baptist Church, Route 9, Valatie.
