HUDSON — The school board elected Peter Merante president and Elizabeth Fout vice president this week.

Mr. Merante had served as the board’s vice president under President Jeff Otty, but Mr. Otty died in September, creating a vacancy. Mr. Merante won election over fellow Hudson City School District Board of Education member Peter Meyer by a vote of 4 to 2 at the board’s meeting Monday, October 24.

Mr. Merante, a lifelong resident of the school district, is a retired correction sergeant who coached T-ball and Hudson High Bluehawk JV football and chaired the Greenport Town Park committee. Mr. Merante and Ms. Fout were sworn in by Clerk of the Board Frieda Van Deusen immediately following their election.

The school district plans to fill the board vacancy by soliciting letters of interest followed by interviews at its next board meeting on November 14, when candidates will be asked specific questions. A list of questions may be obtained from the Clerk of the Board by calling the district office at 518 828-4360 ext. 2100.
