Countdown of Top 5 Stories of 2022: Number 5
RAVENA-COEYMANS — With the new year soon upon us, the Ravena News-Herald is counting down the top 5 stories of 2022.
As the clock ticks down the final moments of the year, it’s time to take a look back at the year that just passed and take stock of where we have been as a community.
There were many milestones passed, some good and others not so good. The year saw many achievements as society made its way back from the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns, businesses fought their way back to prosperity, and events both good and bad captured the imagination and attention of the Ravena and Coeymans community.
The Ravena News-Herald took a look at the past year and identified the top five stories of the year, based on the number of readers on our website, TheUpstater.com, and on Facebook, with input from our editorial staff, considering stories that had the most impact on the communities we serve.
The countdown will continue all this week, ending with the top story of 2022 on Friday.

NUMBER 5: Police: Three charged in armed robbery
RAVENA — Three people were arrested Sunday in connection with an armed robbery in the village, according to Coeymans Police.
The alleged incident took place Sunday morning, Oct. 2, at around 11:21 a.m. at Oakbrook Manor Apartments on Route 9W.
“A resident was walking to his apartment at 18 Oakbrook Manor when three individuals approached the man, pointing a handgun and a long gun at the victim and demanded money,” according to a statement from Police Chief Marc Tryon. “The assailants took cash from the victim’s wallet and fled in a white sedan.”
The name of the man was not released by law enforcement.
A vehicle was stopped a short time later by Officer Jeffrey Weir as it traveled southbound on Route 9W in the town, according to police.
Working with state police and the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, three individuals were arrested without incident.
They were identified as Joshua Taylor, 23, of Blackshear, Georgia; Stephon Nieves, 18, of Wappingers Falls; and Chastity Tiano, 19, of Kingston.
The alleged assailants and the victim know each other, police added.
When the vehicle was stopped, police found a black CO2 pellet handgun and a CO2-powered rifle and the items that were allegedly stolen in the robbery, according to police.
Narcotics were also found in the vehicle, police said.
Taylor, Nieves and Tiano were charged with first-degree robbery, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
They were arraigned in the Town of Coeymans Justice Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
