FREEHOLD — The Clematis Garden Club has awarded the Garden of the Month to Colleen and Arnie Cavallaro of Shipley Road in Freehold.
Their extensive gardens are a large collection of raised beds of herbs and vegetables, flower beds, fruit trees and arbors of grape vines growing on arbors covering the stone walkways, according to the Clematis Garden Club.
The Cavallaros have been working together on their gardens for over 10 years, creating stone walls as well as building structures including a stone waterfall and pond within and surrounding the gardens.
Flowers and fruit trees border the outside of the stone walls that enclose the gardens.
In the past, Colleen Cavallaro has delivered bundles of fresh herbs to local restaurants.
Their work doesn’t end at the close of the growing season. Colleen harvests and cans their vegetable crops and fruits for the winter months.
This garden is a true labor of love!
