GREENVILLE—Stanton Farms last week opened the doors to its Old Homestead location for the season.
Situated at the corner of Kuster and State Route 32 in Greenville, the site is a hub for local produce and goods.
Stanton Farms’ main location is in Coeymans Hollow.
Julie Woodhall, the store manager, provided insight into what customers can expect this year at the Old Homestead site.
“We’re opening a bit later than usual due to staffing issues,” Woodhall said. “But we’re kicking off the season with our strawberries, which are already available and on sale.”
Stanton Farms is known for its wide array of local products. This season, they continue to offer their own locally grown produce, as well as a variety of products including honey, soaps, maple syrup and other goods sourced from nearby producers.
“We have lots of local cheeses and yogurts, and our milk is a big hit,” Woodhall noted.
The store also features goods from several other local vendors. One notable supplier is a former employee who now has her own company, providing baked goods twice a week.
“We also have goat milk and personal wellness products farms right here in Westerlo,” Woodhall added.
Most of the farm’s fruits and vegetables are grown at Stanton Farms’ main location in Coeymans Hollow. When items are out of season, they supplement their stock from the produce market, gradually shifting to fully local offerings as their own harvests come in.
Ellie and Neil Augstein from Greenville stopped by the farmstand to pick up strawberries for strawberry shortcake early in the day.
“My husband grew up here, we usually go up to the farm, but we’ve been coming here for years,” Augstein said. “This is where you can get the best strawberries around. The food is always fresh, and these are good people. It’s great to be able to keep it local.”
Longtime residents will know that the Old Homestead location holds historical significance, having been repurposed from a dairy barn built in the 1960s.
“It’s kind of neat that it’s been transformed into this farm stand,” Woodhall said. “I actually milked cows here in the past, so seeing it evolve into this business is quite special.”
Now that the growing season is well underway, Stanton Farms’ Old Homestead location promises to be a great opportunity for locals and those who pass along Route 32 to stop in and avail themselves of their Monday wholesome offerings.
As the season progresses, the store will continue to expand its offerings with more fresh, local produce and goods.
Regular hours for the season are Thursday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
