GREENVILLE — Fourth and fifth grade students recently had an opportunity to participate in after-school volleyball intramurals with Coach Warga.

The 4th grade focused on learning the basics of volleyball, including the underhand pass (bump), overhead pass (set), attack (spike), and underhand/overhead serve. Combined with skill work, they learned the basic game rules, including when and how to rotate properly on a court. Their skills and knowledge were tested by playing a round-robin tournament.

The 5th grade also worked on the basic skills of volleyball. More importantly, students learned to work together and play as a team. Using teamwork, praise, encouragement, motivation and enthusiasm, teams learned strategies to overcome mistakes and support each other. Teams competed in a regular season. Following the regular season, students learned how a bracket-style postseason tournament is played. Teams were seeded, and all had a chance to win it all!

Congratulations to all the teams and the top 4th- and 5th-grade teams who finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Thanks for being Spartan Strong!
