  • Douglas Griffin, 58, of Athens, was arrested April 20 at 11:33 p.m. in Athens and charged with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content over 0.08%, both unclassified misdemeanors. Griffin was issued an appearance ticket.
  • Esentyal Khaliq Marius Dewer, 21, of Troy, was arrested April 21 at 1:08 p.m. in Coxsackie and charged with second-degree introducing contraband into a prison, a class A misdemeanor. Dewer was released on their own recognizance.
  • Mustafa Aljohim, 31, of Newburgh, was arrested April 22 at 1:20 a.m. in Cairo and charged with third-degree criminal possession of cannabis, a class A misdemeanor, and operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor. Aljohim’s arrest status was not reported.
  • Tracy Conner, 47, of Hudson, was arrested April 22 at 10:05 p.m. in Coxsackie and charged with driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content over 0.08%, both unclassified misdemeanors. Conner was issued an appearance ticket.
  • Rina Gomez, 44, of Albany, was arrested April 23 at 10:05 a.m. in Coxsackie and charged with two counts of official misconduct/public servant performing illegal function, a class A misdemeanor. Gomez was issued an appearance ticket.
  •  Jeremiah Simpson, 45, of Cairo, was arrested April 24 at 9:05 a.m. in Athens and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a class E felony, and second-degree reckless endangerment and resisting arrest, both class A misdemeanors. Simpson was released on his own recognizance.
  • An unidentified juvenile, 13, of South Cairo, was arrested April 25 at 4:04 p.m. and charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child less than 17 years of age, a class D felony; second-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, possessing a sexual performance by a child less than 16, and second-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, all class E felonies; and two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17, a class A misdemeanor. The individual was issued an appearance ticket.
  • Christina Mauriello, 39, of Cornwallville, was arrested April 25 at 9:58 p.m. in Durham and charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony. Mauriello was issued an appearance ticket.
  • Bradlee Snyder, 39, of Catskill, was arrested April 26 at 2:16 a.m. in Catskill and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor; and operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor. Snyder was issued an appearance ticket.
  • Cameron Mikal Ortiz, 21, of Leeds, was arrested April 26 at 7:27 p.m. in Cairo and charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 and fourth-degree ciminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, both class A misdemeanors. Ortiz was taken to central arraignment.
  • Anthony Poehmel, 42, of Windham, was arrested April 28 at 11:58 a.m. in Ashland and charged with two counts of petty larceny, a class A misdemeanor. Poehmel was issued an appearance ticket.
  • Jeremiah Simpson, 45, of Cairo, was arrested April 28 at 11:16 p.m. in Catskill and charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of manufacture of drug-related paraphernalia, both class A misdemeanors. Simpson was issued an appearance ticket.
  • Natasha Montague, 40, of Catskill, was arrested April 28 at 11:16 p.m. in Catskill and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and manufacture of drug-related paraphernalia, both class A misdemeanors. Montague was issued an appearance ticket.
  • James Yutesler, 62, of Coxsackie, was arrested April 27 and charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony, and third-degree menacing, a class B misdemeanor. Yutesler’s arrest status was not reported.
  • Robert Simpson, 43, of South Cairo, was arrested April 29 at 7:50 a.m. in Cairo and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content over 0.08%, driving while intoxicated and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, all unclassified misdemeanors. Simpson was issued an appearance ticket.
  • Alan Wojcio, 39, of Kingston, was arrested May 1 at 8:59 a.m. in Cairo and charged with petty larceny and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both class A misdemeanors. Wojcio was released on his own recognizance.
  • Katherine Moreira, 43, of East Durham, was arrested May 1 at 8:56 a.m. in Cairo and charged with petty larceny, a class A misdemeanor. Moreira was released on her own recognizance.
  • David Charles Bundy III, 21, of Catskill, was arrested May 2 at 1:03 a.m. in Catskill and charged with driving while intoxicated, a class B attempted misdemeanor, and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content over 0.08%, an unclassified misdemeanor. Bundy was issued an appearance ticket.
  • Kevin Michael Hasbrouck, 23, of Climax, was arrested May 2 at 11:29 p.m. in Coxsackie and charged with third-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury, a class A misdemeanor. Hasbrouck was issued an appearance ticket.

HUDSON — Dorothy Urschel took the helm at Columbia Memorial Health (CMH) on January 1, and is now looking to implement her vision for the future of the organization.

Dr. Urschel, a doctorally prepared acute care and family nurse practitioner who was named president and CEO of Columbia Memorial Health, also holds a master’s degree in Business Administration and has held clinical, administrative and academic positions throughout her career.

“I started in critical care and was a thoracic surgery and heart surgery nurse practitioner for many years in western New York,” Dr. Urschel said. “I was also an educator at University of Buffalo and I still continue to do that for graduate nurse practitioners — I teach online and I quite enjoy it. I would never want to stop doing that — it has always provided me with some balance and I really love it.”

Dr. Urschel has held academic positions at the University of Buffalo and Daemen University, and has performed research and worked in clinical settings. Prior to being named to head up CMH, she was vice president of operations and chief nursing officer at Albany Memorial Health, part of the St. Peter’s Health Partners system, where she was also vice president of cardiac and vascular surgery. Major winter storm could bring 1-2 feet of snow

Spring may be near, but winter’s not done with us yet.

A major winter storm is headed to the area that could bring up to 1-2 feet of snow, according to the National Weather Service of Albany.

A winter storm watch is in effect beginning Monday afternoon and running through Wednesday morning.

The late-winter storm could bring 12 to 18 inches of heavy wet snow, with winds gusting as high as 40 mph at times, according to the National Weather Service.

Travel is expected to be very difficult to impossible and the hazardous conditions could impact morning and evening commutes Tuesday into Wednesday.

“This has the potential of being a long duration and high-impact snow event for eastern New York and western New England,” according to a statement from the National Weather Service. “Heavy wet snow combined with strong winds will likely lead to downed trees and power outages across the area. Please begin preparing now for this upcoming winter storm event.”

Higher amounts of snow are possible in the eastern Catskills, Berkshires, Taconics and southern Green Mountains.

The utility company Central Hudson issued an alert Sunday afternoon warning that the heavy snow and gusting winds could bring outages to the area due to the possibility of trees and tree limbs falling onto power lines, causing service interruptions.

“There remains a degree of uncertainty regarding the path of the latest winter storm and the potential impacts it could have on our region, but we are monitoring conditions and are prepared to respond if outages do occur,” said Ryan Hawthorne, vice president of Electric Engineering and Operations at Central Hudson. “We have a field force of more than 430 line and clearance workers that includes internal crews, contractors and mutual assistance to help expedite repairs if the need arises.”

If power lines do fall, the company urges residents to stay at least 30 feet away and call 911 to report the fallen wires. Do not attempt to move a fallen power line, the company said.

To prepare for a severe winter storm, Central Hudson issued the following recommendations:

  • Fully charge your cell phone.
  • Have flashlights and batteries handy.
  • If you rely on electricity to operate a well pump, ensure you have an adequate supply of bottled water. Fill your bathtub for an extra water reserve.
  • Ensure adequate supplies of prescription medicine and other necessities.
  • Fuel up your vehicle.
  • Have a plan to check on vulnerable neighbors and family members.
  • Have non-perishable foods that require no refrigeration or cooking in the event power goes out.
  • Sign up to receive text messages from your utility company to receive updates about power outages and restoration work.
