WINDHAM — The pilot of the small-engine plane that crashed in a remote location in Windham died from his injuries, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
The pilot, Seuk Kim, 49, of Springfield, Virginia, was found dead at the scene. Kim was transporting three rescue dogs from Maryland to Albany when the plane crashed. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
The single-engine aircraft, initially reported to be a Cessna, was a Mooney M20J that crashed Sunday evening around 6:10 p.m.
Of the three dogs on the plane, one died and two survived. One of the animals was a Labrador mix puppy that suffered two broken legs in the accident. The puppy was taken by Hyer Ground Rescue to the Capital District Veterinary Hospital for treatment.
The third dog was found alive as rescue workers were working the scene. The animal had minor injuries and was transported by Hyer Ground Rescue and Partners for Animal Welfare, or PAW, for veterinary care, according to the sheriff’s office.
The NTSB and the FAA are investigating the cause of the crash.
