OAK HILL – Velma Powell Kiley, 91, passed away in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, with her family by her side.
Born in Coeymans Hollow on Dec. 4, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Fanny Burhans Powell, and wife of the late John E. Kiley, Sr., who died Nov. 17, 2006. Velma graduated from Ravena High School.
She worked on her parents’ farm, delivering fruits and vegetables to customers as far away as Albany. Following her marriage, she and John ran their own farm in Oak Hill. Velma was a longtime member of Potter Hollow Union Church.
Velma is survived by her children, John Kiley Jr., Georgianna “Sissy” (Bruce) Myhre, Jacqueline “Jackie” Pinnella, and Patricia “Patty” Zimmerman; special god-daughter, Bobbi Lynn (David) Cunningham and their children, Phebe and Chloe; grandchildren, Maureen Grupe, John C. Kiley, Benjamin Kiley, Michael, Travis, and Jarrod Myhre, Sarah Brown, Kimberly Vaughn, Daniel and Kayla Pinnella, Brendan and Brett Zimmerman; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Richard, and Marvin Powell.
In addition to her parents and husband, Velma is predeceased by her siblings, Eleanor Duncan, Shirley Powell, Marjorie Kudlack, Lawrence and Charles Powell.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 2-4 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Cremation will follow, with burial of her ashes in Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
