GREENVILLE – Richard E. Dedie, 72, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023.

Richard was born in Rockville Centre on July 7, 1951, a son of the late Milton J. and Marjorie Winans Dedie. The family moved from Hicksville to Greenville when Richard was age 4. He graduated from Greenville Central School, class of 1969, and from Mohawk Valley Community College with an Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

Richard worked at Bryant’s Supermarket in Greenville, Hannay Reels in Westerlo, and as a butcher at Price Chopper in Albany for many years, retiring several years ago. Richard also operated Rich’s Custom Meat since 1989. Richard was a man of strong faith and was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church at Norton Hill. He was a kind man with a large heart and would help anyone in any way he could.

Richard is survived by his wife, Helene Ann Covel Dedie; children, Jennifer Dedie Walker (Lee), and John Dedie (Tara); stepchildren Tabetha Pravato, Sharon Moore (Randy), and Jose McKay; siblings Robert Dedie (Karen) and Carolyn Myers (Phil); grandchildren Maverick Alexander Brough, Kristopher Richard Beeker, Zackarie Edward Henry Brough, Jesse-James Andrew Brough, Derek Dedie, John E. Dedie Jr., Courtney McKay, Peter Pravato, Jasmine Pravato and Makayla Pravato; one great-granddaughter, Kylie Jones; several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Richard will be cremated privately. There will be a calling hour on Thursday, Dec. 7, from 10-11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church at Norton Hill, 5830 State Route 81, Greenville. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the Carney Center of the church.
