Per Heidenberg passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, surrounded by his wife, Greta, and children.
Per was born July 17, 1932, in Fredrikstad, Norway, to Sigvart and Hanna Heidenberg. He left Fredrikstad at the age of 14 to sail the seas for 10 years. It was during this time that he met his wife, Greta, in Brooklyn. He left the sailing life to marry Greta 68 years ago. They settled down in Brooklyn before moving to Greenville in 1967.
Per was always busy with a project as he renovated their 1800s farmhouse. He was happiest working on the farm or traveling the world with Greta. They often traveled to Maine in search of a good lobster and fresh seafood. He was actively involved in the Sons of Norway organization.
Per is survived by his wife Greta, his children Louise (Doug) Goettsche, Glen (Tamara) Heidenberg, Chris Heidenberg, and Kari (Johan) Kristoffersen; his grandchildren Kirsten, Tor, Kisa, Kai, Troy, Breck, Meghan, Sydney, Heiden, Toren and Anja; and great-grandchildren Judah, Selah, Silas, Titus, Johan, Serena, Justus, Levi, Elise and Lainey; and his family in Norway, siblings Marit and Øivind, plus his nieces, nephews and their families. He is predeceased in death by his son, Paul, and his parents Sigvart and Hanna.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Grapeville Baptist Church.
Memorial calling hours will be offered on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 4-6 p.m., at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville.
