MEDUSA – Gail F. La Plante, 87, passed away on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at St. Peter’s Hospital.
Gail was born in Brooklyn on Jan. 4, 1937, a daughter of the late John T. and Lillian Fox Hendrick. Her dad was a construction foreman, so the family moved about frequently, or she stayed at her grandfather’s farm in Hannacroix.

She worked for the State of New York, and as an underwriter for the former Pioneer Insurance Company for more than 20 years. She was also a substitute rural carrier and substitute postmaster relief for the Medusa Post Office. Gail was also the court clerk for 25 years when her husband was the Town Justice for the Town of Rensselaerville. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville and was a member of the Rosary Altar Society.
Gail and her husband Victor were school chums who fell in love, married, traveled through marriage within the Navy, State Police, and being a town justice. She was his “bride,” and she called him “the love of her life.” She entered every task with an abundance of love.
Gail is survived by her three children, Jo Anne (Bob) Evans, James La Plante (Kim), and John (Lisa) La Plante; four loved grandchildren, Alison Dignan, Erin (Timon) Cade, Lillian La Plante, and Danielle La Plante; two great-grandchildren, Theadora and Thatcher Cade; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gail was predeceased by her beloved husband, Victor L. La Plante, on Nov. 9, 2017, after 60 years of marriage; and was predeceased by her only sister, Barbara Soldner.
