U.S. Rep. Marcus Molinaro, R-19, conceded the race for his re-election one week after the results were tallied.
Molinaro made a concession speech in a Facebook post.
“Our race didn’t go the way we had hoped but let me tell you this — I am so proud of what we built together,” Molinaro said. “This campaign was about more than just winning a seat — it was about standing up for the people who make this state great, who work hard, who love their families and who believe in the promise of New York and America.”
He thanked his campaign’s volunteers for their work.
“We put forth a valiant effort. At last count, we were outspent by $8 million,” he told volunteers. “The fact that we made the race as close as it was is a testament to all of you. You put your hearts into it and because of you, we made our voices heard. While we didn’t cross the finish line first, we fought for the values we hold dear, and I am deeply grateful to each and every one of you.”
The race between Molinaro and his Democratic challenger, Josh Riley, was a hotly contested rematch of the 2022 race, which Molinaro won by a small margin. Both races also saw very heavy advertising spending.
Molinaro congratulated Riley on his victory.
The race was close, with Riley garnering nearly 49.2% of the vote to Molinaro’s 47.8%, according to the New York State Board of Elections.
The results of all races are still unofficial pending the standard recanvassing of all districts.
