Merged swim and dive team sends Sulik to states, breaks school records

RAVENA-COEYMANS-SELKIRK — The newly merged RCS and Greenville boys’ swim and dive team — known as RCSG — competed at the Section 2 championships and came away with some impressive wins and new records.

The team took second place at the Section 2 championships. Athlete Justin Sulik will head to the states competition next month.

The 200 medley relay team — consisting of Sam Rosen, Justin Sulik, Ashton Guntert and Brett Hungerford —finished second, breaking their own school record, which they set earlier in the season.

The 400 freestyle relay team, consisting of Rosen, Guntert, Hungerford and Sulik, were the Section 2 champions and set a new school record of 3:32:24.

Individual athletes also performed well at sectionals.

Sulik won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, breaking his own school record and qualifying for the state championship. He will move on to compete at the states meet in Ithaca in March.

Rosen finished in second place in the 200 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle. Hungerford took third place in the 100 breaststroke and seventh in the 50 freestyle. McClellan finished in ninth place in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 backstroke, with Guntert taking fifth in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 butterfly.

Owen Smith took ninth place in the 100 butterfly and 15th in the 200 IM, while eighth-grader Lukas Albano finished in 11th place in the 100 backstroke.

In diving, Boehme placed third and Warner took fifth place.
