PITTSFIELD, Mass.— Since its start six years ago, Pittsfield-based Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church’s Feed Thy Neighbor food program continues to package and deliver over 400 meals each Saturday to those in need.

The success of the program is due to the many volunteers who provide their time and funds to keep it going, and now one of those supporters, Warren Dews, Jr., is hosting a gospel concert on his birthday, Saturday, Jan. 11, to raise funds for the program. The concert will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the church’s official new home at 27 East St. in Pittsfield, across from Park Square in the heart of the city’s downtown.

Dews, a minister at the church who’s turning 55 that same day, said he was moved to do this because of the program’s tremendous impact in the community.

“The Feed thy Neighbor program is a cause that is really close to my heart because of all the good work that it does for so many people,” Dews said. “Our church began this initiative just before the pandemic, going from making 50 meals each Saturday to now over 400. My goal is to raise $10,000 from this event, which would help sustain our efforts for half the year.”

The concert will feature hip hop gospel artist Zion, of Savannah, Ga., and singer Isaiah Smallwood, who was featured on “American Idol,” season 21 (2022-2023). Local sponsors of the event include Haddad and Carr Hardware.

Tickets are $25 per person and $40 for two. All proceeds will support Feed thy Neighbor.

Pastor Connie Harris of Price Memorial said she appreciates those who help to make the program a success.

“Our program is truly a ministry of the heart. We are meeting our fellow neighbors’ needs right there in the moment and we are so incredibly grateful to be able to serve them in this way. I genuinely appreciate the members of Price Memorial who come out each Saturday to ensure that we deliver on our promise to provide meals to those in our community,” Harris said.

For Dews, the community’s support would be the best gift ever.

“I’m turning 55 this year and this is the first year without my mother, so for me, this concert is my way of honoring her life with the gift of giving back,” he said.
