Fatal crash leaves one man dead, driver facing charges

NEW BALTIMORE — A one-car motor vehicle crash in the town of New Baltimore on Thursday left one man dead and the driver facing charges.

Evan Kravitz, 43, of Hudson, was driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee on County Route 54 on Thursday morning when the vehicle went off the roadway and struck several trees, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

The passenger of the vehicle, Vance Cohen, 29, also of Hudson, was pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving measures by first responders were attempted. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.

According to the preliminary investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Kravitz was allegedly driving southwest on Route 54 before the vehicle left the road and crashed at around 10:32 a.m.

Kravitz was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a class D felony, and driving while ability impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor, according to the sheriff’s office.

Kravitz was arraigned in the Town of New Baltimore Court and remanded to the Greene County jail without bail.

In addition to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, also responding to the scene were the New York State Police, New Baltimore Fire Department, Medway-Grapeville Fire Department, Coxsackie Ambulance, Greene County Paramedics and the Greene County District Attorney’s Office.
