CAIRO — Two minors were arrested and charged with stealing a handgun, according to a statement from state police.
Troopers from the state police barracks in Catskill responded to a report July 4 of a stolen handgun.
The weapon was reportedly stolen from a woman’s purse after she gave the pair a ride, police said.
“Investigation revealed that the owner of the handgun provided a ride to two juveniles to [a] local store in Cairo,” according to police. “The owner went into the store to purchase some items. After dropping off the teens and returning home she noticed that her .25 caliber Beretta handgun was missing from her purse.”
One of the minors was arrested by troopers on July 5, and the second was arrested the following day, July 6.
Their names have not been released due to their age.
Both minors have been charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.
They were issued appearance tickets and released. The case will be heard in family court at an undisclosed date, according to police.
