COEYMANS — Now in its third year, Coeymans Riverfest 2022 will celebrate the community and all it has to offer this weekend.
This year’s Riverfest will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, from 12-8:30 p.m., concluding at nightfall with a fireworks show at 8:30 p.m.
For each of the past three years, Riverfest has always been held on or near the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that killed 2,996 Americans on Sept. 11, 2001. The inaugural festival took place in 2020 and memorialized the terrorist attacks, including the ringing of a replica of the Liberty Bell.
The festival will include Roamin’ Candle Balloon Rides, a rock wall, a demonstration by Ford Falconry, food and craft vendors, music and more. The nighttime fireworks show will be conducted by Young Explosives.
The Coeymans Riverfest Committee, chaired by Rosemary McHugh, presented the event’s major sponsors with awards at Thursday’s meeting of the town council.
Local companies honored at the awards presentation were LafargeHolcim, Callanan Industries, Carver Companies, W.M. Biers and Baroni Recycling.
“And there are so many other people who have helped us out,” McHugh said. “All donations are appreciated. We couldn’t make this happen if it weren’t for all of our sponsors.”
She also thanked local companies Curaleaf, Collins and Sons, Francisco Equipment and Frese’s Catering for their contributions to the festival.
Nearly $25,000 was raised through local sponsors, McHugh said.
For the first two years, Riverfest was a two-day event, held Friday and Saturday, but was changed to a one-day festival this time around.
“This year’s Riverfest was slightly modified in size and duration primarily due to the construction project currently underway at the Coeymans Landing Park,” Town Supervisor George McHugh said. “The $1,500,000 capital improvement project at the park, funded by the state grant, will not be finished until October.”
Admission to Riverfest is free.
