RAVENA — On Sunday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m., the Ravena Coeymans Historical Society will begin the 2023 year by focusing its monthly programs on local history to celebrate the 350th founding of Coeymans. Society President Joseph L. Boehlke and newly appointed town historian will highlight the development of the Catholic community — its architectural, educational and social history.

As a lifelong Catholic baptized in 1947 at St. Patrick’s Church, Boehlke has served as a former trustee and past president of the Pastoral Council. In 2017, he was co-chair, along with Lori Nunziato, for the 100th anniversary of the current church building. He continues to be a member of the church choir, often officiating as cantor for weekend Masses and funerals.

In the Ravena community, Boehlke was employed for 42 years at Atlantic Cement/Blue Circle/Lafarge as a purchasing professional, retiring in 2008 as Sourcing Director. Joining the Society in 1999, he became more active after retirement and then the museum’s curator in 2009.

Since that time, Boehlke has planned numerous exhibits, increased memberships, encouraged genealogical research, welcomed donations from families, and established relationships with the school district and library. Boehlke is responsible for making the museum a valuable repository.

Open to the public, the program will be held in the museum, located in the rear entrance of the village municipal building in Ravena, accessible to the handicapped. Masks are encouraged.
