COXSACKIE — State and local officials distributed free at-home COVID-19 test kits and face masks to area residents this weekend.
Assemblyman Chris Tague, R-102, and state Sen. Michelle Hinchey, D-46, led a contingent of local officials and volunteers in handing out 1,000 rapid antigen testing kits and KN95 masks at a distribution event at the Greene County Jail on Saturday and a second event Sunday in Schoharie.
The giveaway was a drive-thru event aimed at stemming the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
“I was overwhelmed, not just by the turnout of people coming to receive test kits and masks this weekend, but also how many showed up to help facilitate the distribution of these vital goods,” Tague said. “I can’t thank everyone who attended enough for braving hours of freezing temperatures just to help out our neighbors. I truly appreciate the efforts of everyone who helped organize and operate these very successful distributions.”
Also joining the team distributing the test kits and masks locally were Greene County Sheriff Pete Kusminsky, Greene County Legislator Matt Luvera, Town of Athens Supervisor Michael Pirrone and others, Tague said.
Tague also handed out free test kits and masks at a second drive-thru event at his Schoharie office Sunday.
