Alcove Day Yard Sales set for April 29

RAVENA — The Mosher Park Pool opened its doors last month and returned to a full schedule June 26.

The pool will mark its 50th anniversary on July 23 starting at 1 p.m. with a pool party and all are invited. Donations accepted at the door will go towards providing children’s activities at the Friendship Festival in August.

Swimming season is in full swing, and the pool has new hours this summer.

At the June 20 meeting of the village board, Trustee Linda Muller asked the board for approval on an amendment for the pool’s hours of operation, which was passed unanimously.

The Mosher Park Pool will be open this summer every day of the week, Monday through Sunday, from 1-7 p.m.

Haven’t gotten out to the pool yet this summer? Village residents can still pick up their free pool passes at the pool during its regular hours of operation, and if that doesn’t work for you, you can also get your pass at the village clerk’s office at village hall, 15 Mountain Road, Ravena, during work hours.

Town of Coeymans residents and others may purchase pool passes for the summer.

In addition to regular pool hours that are open to all pass holders or guests, the pool will host several additional activities.

“We have some adult swim hours — it’s going to be Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., for one hour, and we also have water aerobics on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8 p.m. and water yoga Mondays 7-8 p.m.,” Muller said.

For the little ones, there is also a special story exhibit hosted by the RCS Community Library.

“The library has come and put up a new story walk,” Muller said. “The story walk is on posts all around the outside of the pool. You can go from one story board to another story board and it asks questions, tells stories — it’s really cool. I did it with my grandson this past weekend and it was a lot of fun.”

Muller also asked the board for an amendment to a motion originally passed June 14 with regard to employees at the Mosher Park Pool.

“The motion will change to the effect of the pool director will be doing 40 hours over a seven-day week at $18 per hour,” she said. “The head lifeguard is [paid] $16 per hour, four lifeguards at $15 per hour [each], and one pool consultant, which is $17 per hour.”

NOISE COMPLAINTS

In other village news, Deputy Mayor Nancy Warner said there have been numerous reports of noise at various locations around the village, including loud talking, fighting and other noisy activities in the early morning hours.

Law enforcement is aware of the problem, Warner said.

“I talked to the police and I talked to the sheriff’s department. They are aware of these areas,” Warner said. “They are working to handle and curtail these problem areas. They’ve already started so they were well aware when I called them — they knew exactly where I was talking about.”

She encouraged residents to call the police when these incidents occur and said callers can remain anonymous when filing a complaint.

“The more reports the better,” Warner said. “The police, both departments, are well aware of the issue and are working on it as we speak, but they need our help as well because they can’t be on every street all the time.”
