LEE, Mass. — A body found in Lee, Massachusetts, on Sept.1 is presumed to be that of missing Delmar woman Meghan Marohn.

The remains were discovered by a civilian in a heavily wooded area near Fox Drive in Lee, according to Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington.

Marohn was reported missing by her family on March 29 and her vehicle, a black 2017 Subaru Impreza hatchback, was found unattended at Longcope Park in Lee the same day, Harrington said in a statement.

Since that time, police from both New York and Massachusetts have continued a coordinated search for Marohn, who lives in Delmar and is a teacher at Shaker High School.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Massachusetts took custody of the body that was found Thursday night to make a positive identification. At press time, the body had not been officially identified but is presumed to be Marohn’s.

A cause and manner of death had not yet been determined at press time.

Marohn, 42, was a hiker and trips to wooded areas were not uncommon for her, Bethlehem Police Commander James Rexford said at a joint press conference with Massachusetts law enforcement in late March.

Massachusetts police have been combing the area where Marohn’s car was found with K-9s and helicopters, and using other law enforcement resources to locate her since she was reported missing.

The missing person’s case has been under investigation sinch March 29 by the Albany County Sheriff’s Department, Bethlehem Police, Lee Police, Lee Fire Department, the Massachusetts State Police at Lee Barracks, Massachusetts State Police K9 and Airwing, Massachusetts State Police Special Emergency Response Team, the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office, and the Berkshire Mountain Search and Rescue Team.

The case remains under investigation by Bethlehem Police, Lee Police and the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.
